While it is not a certainty, we’ve all probably read Romans 8:28. If we just love God, everything will turn out just fine. “Yeah, right!” some of us might say, including me. But if we look at the big picture, even the medium picture, things do typically turn out just fine.
Some people think that the minor prophets like Amos don’t preach to us today. Nothing could be further from the truth. Just read Amos 8 to see what I mean.
The following is a movie quote from an old Lindsay Lohan movie…“I’m not trying to prove you wrong, I just want to help you see.” This is the attitude I have towards anyone I meet that is unchurched and antagonistic toward God or Christians. I don’t try to prove them wrong, I just try to help them see they have a need for something bigger than the busyness of their everyday lives. That something bigger is Jesus.
Often, in my public prayers, I thank God for loving us and giving us everything we need. We don’t deserve His love, but I plead for his help in our lives so we can at least act like we deserve a little of what he provides. I think it is extremely important that we not just say we love God, but to actually show it to Him in our words and actions.
Look at my life and you’d wonder how in the world I could ever feel blessed. It is true, you might have to look at my life through faith googles to do so. But isn’t that the way all Christians should look at life every day?
In a world where terrorist bombings, stabbings, shootings happen almost weekly, we need hope. In a world where we don’t know whether or not we’ll keep our job through the end of the month, we need hope. In a world that is fallen and death invades our lives, we need hope.
