Bible Passage: Psalms 117
Bible memorization is not a strong point of mine. Recently, my wife and I have made a point to begin practicing this skill. We began with Psalm 117. It’s short and easy to remember. In fact, here it is: “Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.”
This is a very short psalm but there are two powerful points. God loves you a lot and he is always faithful. If we’re human, there will be times when we think God’s love isn’t that great toward us or that he’s not too faithful.Just think of your own life. When things don’t go the way we’d like we may think God isn’t being faithful or showing us much love.
Friends and family members die. Kids fail classes at school. Girlfriends steal away boyfriends. Kids talk back to their parents. Sons and daughters get hooked on drugs. Wives say bad things to husbands and husbands say mean things to wives. Bosses treat us bad. Co-workers get jealous about our promotions and talk behind our back. The Bible says that gossiping is wrong, but people at church still do it. Our personal economic situation goes from bad to worse. Hello everyone, this is your life. This isn’t all the time, but we all suffer through some of these situations at various times.
In reading the 117th psalm, did you see the main points? God loves us a lot and God is always faithful. I believe Lynn Anderson sang the song, “I Never Promised You a Rose Garden.” Well, God practically says the same thing in many Bible passages. Life won’t be a garden of roses, but always remember God loves you … a lot.
I suggest we all take a moment out of our day right now to tell him “thank you.”
